UNDER THE KNIFE....

Well Phil is currently in SURGERY! I know it's just a knee surgery but I get so nervous for him! I had to come into work this morning so my mother-in-law took him in and stayed with him until he was OUT! I am way thankful she was able to do that because nobody wants to sit in a COLD waiting room anticipating surgery all alone. I keep calling the hospital to make sure he is still in surgery and doing OKAY, I am such a worrier! I guess that explains why we don't have kids yet...that would worry me right to DEATH!

Surgery Bound...

I guess it’s time for the details on Phil’s knee...

The day following the big "GAME" we headed to Urgent care for some x-rays and pain relief. {AKA pain meds!} The doctor took one glance at his knee and moved it a bit and without much doubt declared it was an ACL tear. We scheduled an MRI at LDS hospital and headed home with much needed pain medication! A few days later we were meeting with the Orthopedic Surgeon with our MRI results in hand. Again, the same routine the doctor took one look at his knee and moved it a bit and also without ANY hesitation told us it was a COMPLETE 100% torn ACL. Needless to say we weren’t a bit surprised at this point! We scheduled the surgery for Mid April. Phil would have loved to get the surgery this week but before surgery he needs to have full range of motion and the swelling has to be gone. We will start pre-surgery physical therapy to get the knee ready. After surgery, which I hear is a BEAST, he will be down for one week and then he should be up and limping around! I think the worst news for Phil was the no golfing for 12 weeks after surgery and 6 months until he can play tennis. He was crushed. Phil is very much a Summer Boy and can hardly wait for Tennis and Golf season to come. I guess this year we are going to be finding some new hobbies to keep us busy!

Here are some events that have taken place during the last week that Phil has been in BED!

Kiley loves her Uncle so much. She was so worried about him and the pain he was in. She didn’t want to leave his side just in case he needed something. Every time he would move she would get a worried look and it was all she could do to hold the tears in.

Well I guess if Phil can’t physically play Basketball he can at least pretend! (Did I mention I hate X-Box?)

Church Basketball: {“The brawl that begins with Prayer!”}
I have to admit I really enjoyed watching Phil’s Church ball team play this year. It was rare when his team didn’t blow out the other wards but 20 points or more. The games for the most part were pretty clean with only a rare Technical foul once or twice! Most of the time the other teams would show more frustration that Phil’s due to the fact they were usually the team loosing!

Thursday’s game, however, sang a very different tune; it was a regional championship game! It was the “Church Ball” game I have always heard about but never really witnessed! The game started with a little prayer and some kind handshakes between the two teams. I was excited in the audience to watch Phil’s team blow out yet another ward. The game started a little more intense that it had in the past but this was only because the team who lost would be eliminated from the championship game! Our 6th ward team was playing great but I could tell that it wasn’t going to be another blow out. Uh oh, how would our team react under pressure! It was the 3rd quarter and the game was VERY sloppy, men flying all over the place; hitting walls, falling to the ground, tripping. It was Phil’s turn to dribble the ball down the court and get his team some points. I am not exactly sure how it happened but I think in his mind he was going to do a ‘PIVOT’ turn and fake his opponent out! He instantly fell to the ground and grabbed his knee and began rocking back and fourth. He even managed to yell out, “I am done, I am done!” He got carried off the floor and laid on the sideline to cheer his team on!

The RESULTS of the game: Two TECHNICAL fouls and eviction from the building, a harsh talk from the Stake Athletic Director indicating that if anybody says ONE more word to the referee’s the rest of the game both teams will be disqualified, a 2nd prayer in the middle of the 3rd quarter (I have never seen this happen!), and a COMPLETE ACL tear.

For those of you still playing church ball, one bit of advice…QUIT!

Rascal Flatts & Kelly Pickler

On Friday me, my mom, my sister, and my nephew Austin went to the Rascal Flatts concert. Yes, that does kind of seem like an odd group but Austin is really the reason we went to the concert. He is a HUGE fan of Rascal Flatts and has all of their songs memorized! Ever since we had a band play at my mom’s birthday party he has been talking about Rascal Flatts playing at his birthday party! We for sure could not pass on tickets when we found out they were coming to SLC! We had great seats and loved every minute. Kelly Pickler was the opener and she was darling…I thought she did a great job, and she is so dang cute! Austin kept saying, “where is Rascal Flatts, I did not come to see her sing!” It was cute.

I do have to say that the ESA does not have great sound for concerts, but it was still fun! After the concert we asked Austin why he wasn’t singing and dancing with the rest of us and he said, “Well didn’t you see those two cool guys and pretty girls in front of us? I didn’t want to embarrass myself!” He is a funny boy!

Las Vegas

Last weekend (yes, I am a week behind in posting) we went to Vegas to spend time with Phil's Dad and his sweet wife Dianne. It was nice to get away from this cold for a few days! After a very short plane ride we headed to their house and got settled in! We had so much fun talking and laughing together! The weekend was filled with great food, great company, and of course GREAT shopping! On Sunday we drove to St. George for our Niece's baby blessing, Olivia Holland! Her daddy gave a wonderful blessing. It was fun to see her and spend a little time with her! We are so sad that some of our family lives so far away. We miss our little road trips and silly moments with Rob and Kara! On Sunday night we were lucky enough to stay at the new Redrock Hotel & Casino in a BEAUTIFUL suite...thanks Boyd and Dianne! Our room was amazing and we had a great time!

Thanks Boyd and Di for the wonderful weekend. We miss you guys already and can't wait to see you again soon! Much LOVE!
